Clinch-o-rama!

Celebrate!

Okay, okay… so it’s not exactly what we were aiming for… I think the Yankees organization and definitely most Yankees’ fans would have preferred to win the AL East Division from Boston instead of simply clinching the Wild Card, but in the end… what matters is that the Yankees will be headed into their 13th consecutive post-season. Considering the hole the team dug for themselves in the beginning of the year, clinching anything at all can be considered quite an impressive achievement.

With so many Wild Card teams in the recent past being able to win the Championship, there really isn’t as much of a stigma about it as there used to be. As Cashman explained last night after the game, everyone starts the post season with the same record. It’s a final-four type scenario and now the Yankees, finally, have just as much chance as any of the other teams to win it all. We should all be pretty proud of our boys for turning it around this year so dramatically and becoming one of those four teams.

No one can argue the energizing effect of the rookie players this year, and the sense of playfulness that has been brought into the clubhouse (I want to forearm-bash Shelley Duncan!)… and the impressive performances that have been brought to the field, most notably from Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy.

Now we can wait and see who’s making the post-season roster, and which team we get to pummel first. Here we go!
